Philosophy

Today there are about 800 Steiner (or Waldorf) schools in 23 countries around the world with 72 schools, pre-schools and kindergartens in Australia and many others in various stages of development. These form an educational movement rather than a system. Schools are co-educational and non-denominational. Schools are adapted to their particular time, place and community, and each is independently managed.

Steiner schools present a broad curriculum providing a balance of academic, artistic and practical subjects. The teachers work to generate a genuine inner enthusiasm for learning.

Rather than having a Principal, Steiner schools are usually run by a group of teachers known as the College of Teachers. The College is responsible for the school’s educational and philosophical direction. It is also actively involved in the administrative and social spheres of the school.
