Classes 1-6

While the focus in Kindergarten is on your child's physical growth, during the primary years more emphasis is given to emotional and intellectual development.

This is a time of adventure and delight, and continuity with their class teacher, who stays with the class from Class 1 to 6, creates a great sense of security and affection.

In 2006, for the first time in its history, Mumbulla School had single stream classes throughout the school.

2010 sees a Classroom assistant employed to help in our large Class 1 and an Extra Lesson practitioner works in the school on a part time basis. Kindergarten also has a part time assistant.

The class teacher is responsible for the Main Lesson period and Practice sessions each day, while specialist teachers provide tuition in Languages other than English (LOTE - French), Music, Craft and Woodwork.

The Main Lesson takes place in the first two hours of each day, providing a thematic and integrated approach to each topic. Each topic is developed over three or four weeks, deepening and enriching the learning experience. All subjects are presented dynamically and pictorially.

Over the year a balance is achieved amongst the Key Learning Areas - Mathematics, English, Science, Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), the Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).

At midday, the Practice (or Middle) session activities begin. The children revise work introduced in previous Main Lessons and hone their skills. Each child’s progress is closely monitored by their class teacher.
